Gladys Lavon Burfield went to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at the age of 86.
She was born August 20, 1934 in Coleman County to James A. and Exa Eudell Davis Townsend. She married Claude Crim, who preceded her in death. She later married Cliff Burfield, and the couple was married 33 years.
Gladys worked as Cafeteria Manager at Fannin Elementary for many years. She also worked at Security State Bank in Abilene, Texas State Bank in Brownwood, and First Financial in Clyde. She was an amazing seamstress and loved to crochet, but her true love was cooking, especially for others. She was a member of Wylie United Methodist Church in Abilene, and was a kind, loving servant of the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Claude; a brother, Wayne Townsend; and two daughters, Charlene Ring and Sam Hamilton.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Cliff; her sons, James Crim and wife Anita of Abilene, Billy Crim and wife Carlene of Abilene, John Crim and wife Gloria of Waco and Larry Jones and wife Pat of Corsicana; daughters Vicky Sowell and husband Kit of Burleson and Darlene Burfield of Burleson; son-in-law Edward Hamilton of Zephyr; 24 grandkids, 45 great-grandkids and 9 great great-grandkids. She is also survived by her best friend, Norma Howell and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Wylie United Methodist Church, 3430 Antilley Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Wylie United Methodist Church, with Jeff Hatcher officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 PM Thursday, December 10, at Coleman City Cemetery. Those attending are reminded of social distancing guidelines. Face coverings are recommended.
