Gwendolyn Young

Gwendolyn Young of Round Rock, formerly of Baird and Clyde, went to be with the Lord Monday, November 13, 2023, at the age of 95.

Gwen was born September 29, 1928 in Baird to N.L. and Sybil Brown Dickey.  She attended Baird schools, Tarleton University and McMurry University. She was married to Bill Young from 1948 to 1950.  She later married Darrell Young in 1960, and they made their home in Clyde.  She and Darrell were married 43 years when he preceded her in death in 2003.

Gwen barrel raced in Callahan County rodeos, and was the first to be crowned Rodeo Queen in 1949. She took painting classes for over 20 years and had many paintings to her credit.  She was a member of the Church of Christ in Clyde and attended women’s Bible study.

She was preceded in death by her parents N.L. and Sybil Dickey; sister JoAnn Newton; son Dusty Young and husband Darrell Young.

Survivors include her daughter Tanya Reese and husband Russell; grandsons Tyler and Cody Reese; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Ross Cemetery Annex.
