John Shriver, Sr. Obituary

John Raymond Shriver, Sr. was born June 26, 1929 in Hundred, West Virginia to Raymond Albert Shriver and Nancy Alice (Phillips) Shriver. He entered the U.S. Navy July 25, 1946 and retired October 25, 1967. After stints working at various entities, he began working for the Civil Service in 1983 at the Corpus Christi Naval base, retiring in 1994.

He married (Helen) Angelita Noemi Durand in Galveston, Texas on April 21, 1950. John and Helen had three children, John, Jr., Gwendolyn, and Clifford. John and Helen eventually made Corpus Christi their permanent home, being in their same home 54 years.  John moved to Baird, Texas in 2013. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Baird, and a founding member of St. Peter's by the Sea Methodist Church - Corpus Christi. He was a member of the Del Mar Masonic Lodge #1350 AF & AM; Baird Masonic Lodge #522 AF & AM; and Member of the York Rite Bodies - Corpus Christi.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Shriver (2008); son, John Shriver, Jr. (2012); his parents; and a sister, Nancy Alice (Shriver) Phillips.

John is survived by daughter, Gwendolyn Monroe of Corpus Christi; son, Clifford (Colleena) Shriver of Baird; and daughter-in-law Robin Shriver of Rio Rancho, NM.  He is also survived by grandchildren Ernie Monroe (Jennifer) of Houston; John Monroe (Jessica) of Columbia, SC; Kelly (Chris) Koehlinger of Angel Fire, NM; Katie (Chris) Lively of Rio Rancho, NM; Ashley Shriver of Galveston; and Pam Monroe of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, a sister, Ruby Katherine (Shriver) Shaulis of Phoenix, AZ, and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at John's home church in Corpus Christi at a later date.
