L.C. (Clifton) Burfield Obituary

L.C. (Clifton) Burfield went to be with his Lord and Savior on his birthday, November 4th, 2021 at the age of 92.

Clifton was born on November 4th, 1929 in Coleman County Texas to Newton Columbus Burfield and Stella (Wells) Burfield.

A long time newspaper man, he started working for the Coleman Democrat at age 13. After a short time in California, he came back to Texas and purchased the Mitchell County News based out of Lorraine.

In 1964, Clifton purchased the Baird Star and the Clyde Enterprise and printed all 3 newspapers from the Baird location. He eventually sold the Mitchell County News and combined his other two newspapers into the Callahan County Star. Clifton’s newspaper career ceased in 1985 when he retired from the business. However, having a strong entrepreneurial spirit, he found himself in the golf cart business and the residential rental business, along with a septic tank cleaning service. He finally officially retired around the year 2010.

Clifton was an avid golfer and played until his early 80’s. He also enjoyed drinking coffee and solving the world’s problems with his buddies. Clifton was a faithful member of Wylie United Methodist Church, where he committed his life to the Lord and was baptized in August of 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 33 years Gladys Lavon (Crim) Burfield; his siblings Roy Burfield, N.D. Burfield, James Burfield, Jack Burfield and Gertrude Winter. He was also preceded in death by daughters Charlene Ring, Vicky Sowell and Sam Hamilton.

Clifton is survived by sons Larry Jones and wife Pat of Corsicana, James Crim and wife Anita of Abilene, Billy Crim and wife Carlene of Abilene, John Crim and wife Gloria of Waco; daughter Darlene Burfield of Burleson; sons-in-law Kit Sowell of Burleson and Edward Hamilton of Zephyr; 24 grandkids, 45 great-grandkids and 9 great great-grandkids.
