L.B. Monsey, Jr., 77, died Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Hendrick Hospice Care. He was born November 28, 1943 in Callahan County. He was the son of Leslie Basil and Verdis Novelle (Haile) Monsey.
L.B. married his high school sweetheart, Betty Baker, on December 30, 1961, and they soon started a family. They celebrated 58 years of marriage before Betty passed away last year. L.B. worked on cotton gins all over the state of Texas early in his life.He moved his family to Abilene in 1975 and worked at various jobs for several years. He retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. L.B. loved to go fishing, play pool and tinker with small engines. His passion for the past several years was going to garage sales and sharing his treasures with everyone.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Betty and four of his eight brothers, Ronnie, Tommy, Ricky and Little Robert.
Surviving are his daughters, Marcy Choate and husband Dan, of Abilene, and Leslee Moore of Clyde; son, Brian Monsey and his wife, Bobbie Monsey of Clyde; brothers, Kenneth, Elwin, James and David; seven grandchildren, Kelci Sears, Austin Choate, Seth Moore, Jami Monsey, Dustin Moore, Cassi Monsey and Wendi Monsey; and six great-grandchildren, Rhett, Kensli, Bristol, Ryder, Lucas and Karson.
