Linda Maxine May Hart of Baird passed away during the early morning hours Monday, December 4, 2023, at the age of 89.
Linda was born December 18, 1933 in Holliday, Texas to Leonard Elton and Jewel Opal Thomas May. She graduated from Megargel High School in 1951 ranked highest in her class.She graduated Abilene Christian College in 1955 with a major in Business Administration and a minor in education. She married Bill Hart August 17, 1956, and the couple was married 59 years.
Linda and Bill loved children. They fostered several children before adopting their first three from Lubbock Christian Children's Home. After moving to Vestal, New York they continued fostering and then adopted their fourth child, "Little" Keith.
Upon returning to Texas in 1973 and settling in Baird, Linda began her career at Baird ISD as secretary and business manager. She retired from the school in 1999.
Linda served diligently as a Bible school teacher for children and ladies. She taught classes at the Baird Church of Christ and in her home. She dedicated many hours to study and preparation of materials and craft projects for these classes.
Linda was a loving wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was faithful to the end. She served and taught all her life, encouraging others to follow Christ's example and live for Him. Her home was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay, and there was always a meal ready to be served. Linda maintained a close relationship with the 55 Bunch Ladies. She was especially close to her college roommate and best friend, Wanda Craig.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bill; a son, Charles R. Hart; and a grandson, Justin Hart. (She was the last of her generation.)
Survivors include her children Cindy Hart Hickerson and husband Jerry, Marilu Hart Hall and husband Bill, and Keith Lee Hart and wife Chris; daughter in law Melanie Hart; grandchildren Kandis Washington, Gregory, Jeffrey and Ruth, Jessica Wilson and husband Chris, Morgan Parker and husband Reed, Lauren McLeroy and husband Jace, Shelby Mendez and husband Jesse, Tori Hall, Rebecca Hart and Emalee Hart; 14 great-grandchildren (and another on the way), and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 PM Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home, 141 E. 3rd Street in Baird. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to a missionary or children’s home of your choice.
