Olen Carroll Rutherford

Olen Carroll Rutherford passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at a Ft. Worth hospital.

Olen was born April 30, 1960 at the Callahan County Hospital in Baird to Herbert Lawrence and Mary Lucille Midkiff Rutherford. He completed high school as the highest ranking boy in his graduating class, and was voted Who’s Who Among Junior Colleges.  He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from McMurry College. He worked for Tandy Corporation and CSC in Fort Worth then was disabled until his death.

He enjoyed pool, bowling, golf, fishing, hunting and video games. He loved going to Kentucky Derby at Lone Star Park, where they always had a box on the finish line. Olen was most fond of time spent with family and friends. 

Olen was preceded in death by his parents; sister Minnie Scott; and uncle Garland Rutherford, who lived with the family and was like a second father.

He is survived by his brother, Richard Rutherford of Ft Worth; niece LeeAnne Wheeler and husband Jason; nephew Dow Scott and wife Amy; four great nieces, Jasmine Wheeler, Lillian Wheeler, Violet Wheeler and Maggie Scott; one great nephew Bryan Wheeler; one great-great niece Evelyn Russell; and brother-in-law Kyle Scott.

Olen’s wishes were to be cremated.  His remains will be laid to rest at Ross Cemetery Annex in Baird with his parents and sister, Minnie Scott.
